British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made his first visit to Ukraine’s capital Kiev on Saturday to show the United Kingdom’s continued support to the war torn nation. In a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Sunak also pledged to provide Ukraine a new air defense system to counter Russia air strikes.
According to Sunak, Britain will provide Ukraine with a new $60 million defense package that includes anti-aircraft guns and high tech radar technology to counter Russian kamikaze drone attacks.
“While Ukraine’s armed forces succeed in pushing back Russian forces on the ground, civilians are being brutally bombarded from the air,” Sunak said in a statement. “We are today providing new air defense, including anti-aircraft guns, radar and anti-drone equipment, and stepping up humanitarian support for the cold, hard winter ahead.”
