The Hot Beat, first published in 1960 by Robert Silverberg (aka Stan Vincent), we are introduced to Bob McKay, a disgraced Los Angeles musician spending his days fizzling out in dives where the floozies work their magic and bar fights are the only form of justice.  When a prostitute is snuffed, McKay takes the fall and finds himself on Death Row.  As McKay counts his final days, will help from a starlet and a news hound save his life from the gas chamber?

Written in classic hard boil fashion, Silverberg’s lost novel is a treasure for those seeking true classic noir pulp fiction.  Hard Case Crime also included four bonus stories: Jailbait Girl, Drunken Sailor, Naked in the Lake, and Blood One the Mink.
